NaNoWriMo – Day the First

NaNoWriMo has officially begun.

As of now, I have written approximately 2000 words.

I’m not getting ahead of myself; including today, there are 29 days to go. I’m not going to be super disappointed if I don’t get to 50,000 this time around. It’s my first, after all. But I’m going to try to get 25,000 at least. That’s not even a thousand words a day. I’m telling myself this because I was once told to set goals that I could not fail at. I write approximately 10,000 words per week. That number isn’t so daunting as 50K. Not yet, anyways. Give it a week  and a stint of writers’ block.

This was in the NaNoWriMo update for the day:

This was in my NaNoWriMo pep talk for today: “Don’t do it alone. If you live with somebody, tell them to be unpleasant to you if they see you doing anything else during your writing time. Buy them a water gun.” My husband, who is always supportive of me, commented, “I will do this for you. I will squirt you with water every time I see you not writing.”
Such a sweetheart.
Ah, see? I’ve only written during work today (it’s very quiet) and I’ve hit the 200 word mark already. I’m going to count both blog and story as separate word counts. Total words written versus novel words written. Just so I can get a feel for numbers, and keep myself inspired. I can do this! My goal for the weekend is 4000, but I get a prize if I hit six thousand. No idea what the prize is yet, but I’ll figure something out.
Oooo, Hallowe’en candy just went on sale.
This may be dangerous.
